Islam begins in Spain with the conquest of Tariq ibn Ziyad and his army of Berbers, which will lead to the establishment of the emirate of Cordoba (Cordoba) under the caliph Abd ar-Rahman I.

Between the year 711 and the year 1492, it was the beginning of the Muslim domination in the Iberian peninsula, one will remember this period as the golden age of the entire Islamic civilization, essentially thanks to the blossoming Of Andalusia in all fields; Cultural, architectural, agricultural, artistic ... Andalusia experienced a climax that few regions of the world have had the chance to have in the whole history of mankind.

After the fall of Andalusia, the Muslim community disappeared completely from the Iberian lands, Spain then becomes completely Christian again.

In 2009, the census of the "Instituto National de Estadistica, INE" counted about 1.2 million people of Muslim faith in Spain, which corresponds to 2.5% of the Spanish population.

90% of the Muslim community is made up of foreigners, mainly from Morocco, Algeria, Senegal and Pakistan.
